What is the difference between a Holter monitor and 24 hour blood pressure monitoring?

A Holter monitor records your heart’s electrical rhythm continuously for 24 to 48 hours to investigate palpitations or irregular heartbeat. A 24 hour blood pressure monitor measures blood pressure at set intervals throughout the day and night. Both are worn externally and involve no admission to hospital.

Diagnosis typically involves a combination of clinical assessment and ECG, and often an exercise stress test, stress echocardiogram or cardiac CT, depending on your symptoms and risk factors.

Yes. A referral from your GP is required before booking a specialist consultation, and some diagnostic tests also require a referral. Contact our reception team on (07) 3824 8144 to confirm requirements for a specific test.

Yes. Your cardiologist will determine which combination of tests is appropriate based on your symptoms and clinical history, and coordinate scheduling where possible.
